Pool renovations: gresite, ceramic tiling and paint
Over the years, a pool shell takes a beating: gresite (glass mosaic tile) starts shedding tiles, the joints open up and water finds its way through to the mortar behind. Gresite re-tiling: when to repair it
Gresite is by far the most common pool lining on the Costa Blanca, thanks to how well it stands up to chlorine and strong sunshine. Over time, though, damp and small movements in the shell can loosen individual tiles or open up the joints between them. Our gresite tiling and re-tiling service covers chipping out the affected area, preparing the substrate and bedding in new or salvaged tiles using an adhesive designed for permanent immersion, matching the shade to the rest of the pool wherever possible.

Gresite, ceramic tiles or paint: choosing your pool lining
Gresite
The most hard-wearing option and the best at resisting chlorine. A huge choice of mosaic colours and finishes. Offers the best balance of lifespan and upkeep over the long term.
Ceramic tiles
Larger-format pieces than gresite, quicker to install and attractive to look at. The joints need sealing properly to keep water from getting behind them.
Pool paint
The cheapest option and the quickest to apply. It does need recoating every few years (every 3-6 years depending on the product and how much the pool is used) to keep looking good.

What a re-lining job includes:
- Draining and chipping out the old lining where needed.
- Repairing the substrate: cracks, chipped areas and levelling the mortar.
- Laying gresite or ceramic tiles, or applying pool paint.
- Sealing the joints and the waterline.
- Refilling and commissioning, with an initial water treatment.
New pool builds and extensions

How do I know if my pool needs its gresite re-tiled?
Tiles lifting away or sounding hollow when tapped, open joints and patches where the mortar is showing through are the clearest signs.
Gresite, ceramic tiles or paint?
Gresite lasts longest and copes best with chlorine; ceramic tiles give a smart finish using larger pieces; paint is the cheapest option, but it is a temporary one.
How long does a re-lining job take?
Usually a few weeks, including draining the pool, chipping out the old finish and letting the new material cure.
